Coming out on March 22nd Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the PCdie PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and also for that Steam Deck. Anyone who is now wondering whether they can complete one or two quests on the go on Valve’s handheld PC will not be satisfied with our answer.
Before the release, as with many other games, there is information on the Steam product page no indicatorwhether Dragon’s Dogma 2 is even playable on the Steam Deck and how well. The announcement in this regard is usually only added a few days after publication, as soon as Valve receives enough reports. However, we were already able to take the first steps with the test sample and say: The Performance is a huge sticking point.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Launching but barely playable on the Steam Deck
Basically, we can say that Dragon’s Dogma 2 can be started on the Steam Deck without any further problems. The control is adjusted automatically and the font is still easy to read despite the small display. So there are no problems up to this point, but we haven’t started a new game or selected an existing save yet.
After a relatively long loading time, Dragon’s Dogma 2 still crashes lowest settings, reduced resolution, no longer quite as attractive optics and activated FSR 3 completely. With ten to a maximum of 15 FPS The role-playing game is basically unplayable on the Steam Deck. The performance is simply not enough to fight the sometimes chaotic fights or to precisely avoid one or another attack.
Increasing the GPU clock frequency and switching to the experimental Proton test build hardly brought any improvement: We were able to reach the 18 frames per second mark, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 still wasn’t really comfortable to play. A Look at the extended performance display tells us that both the CPU, GPU and RAM are simply working at their limits. There is no room for improvement in the current version of Dragon’s Dogma 2.
that’s what it is Thema Performance A difficult one: On the PlayStation 5, Capcom’s role-playing game occasionally drops below 30 FPS, but on the PC you need good hardware and even then you are not protected from the frame times slipping into very low regions in some places. In other words: The developers definitely have to deliver some improvements with future patches.
You can find our playful first impressions of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in our test report. One final rating However, we will only award it once we have experienced more of the game world.
