Jannik Sinner became the first player to qualify for the semifinals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami on Wednesday. The world number three, who has already won the Australian Open and Rotterdam this year, defeated the Czech Tomas Machac 6:4,6:2 after 91 minutes. The 22-year-old Italian will now face either the number 3 seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev or the Chilean Nicolas Jarry (No. 22).
Danielle Collins had already surprisingly reached the women’s semi-finals. The 30-year-old American will end her career at the end of this season. The 2022 Australian Open finalist defeated Caroline Garcia (FRA-23) 6:3,6:2. Collins will now face either Jessica Pegula (USA-5) or the Russian Jekaterina Alexandrowa (14).
