Julian Assange got permission to marry his partner

by admin

The founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, got permission to marry his partner, the lawyer Stella Moris, in Belmarsh prison, London, where he has been held since 2019 after the United States took legal action to obtain his extradition. He writes it on Guardian.

The couple, who met when Assange lived in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, have two children aged four and two. The permission for the wedding, requested for some time, had not been granted so far. For this the couple was about to take legal action against the director of the prison and the Minister of Justice, Dominic Raab, accusing them of wanting to prevent marriage.

The wedding date has not yet been set. The British newspaper reports that Moris said she was “relieved that reason prevailed” and wished that “there would be no further interference”.

United States, kidnap and kill Assange: the Trump administration’s plan

A prison spokesman said the usual process was followed, “as with any other person”.

Last January, a judge denied Assange’s extradition to the United States: the 49-year-old founder of Wikileaks suffers from mental disorders and would be at “suicide risk” if incarcerated in the United States. Washington has filed an appeal against this decision, the outcome of which is still awaited.
