Madagascar, a merchant ship sinks: 17 dead and 68 missing

A merchant ship illegally carrying 130 people sank off the northeastern coast of Madagascar. 17 dead and 68 missing. At least 45 people were rescued. The maritime authorities report this. The ship had left the city of Antanambe in the eastern Mananara North district in the early hours of Monday. It was heading south towards the port of Soanierana Ivongo. A hole in the ship’s hull is believed to have caused the sinking.
