A legal official announced that a Myanmar court sentenced former leader Aung San Suu Kyi to another four years in prison after finding her guilty of importing and illegally possessing walkie-talkies and violating coronavirus restrictions. San Suu Kyi was sentenced last month on two more charges and sentenced to four years in prison, then halved by the newly installed head of the military government.
It’s just the latest in a dozen cases filed against the 76-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner since the military took power last February, ousting her elected government. Supporters of San Suu Kyi have declared that the charges against her are artificial to legitimize the actions of the military and prevent her from returning to politics.
