Nowhere, the unusual survival film ~ Badalfohmoh

Released in cinemas on September 29, 2023, this thriller directed by Albert Pinto is an excellent film in Spanish maritime survival mode.

Not in great shape in recent weeks, I decided to overcome the blank page syndrome by rediscovering an old habit: going to Netflix to watch a film. I came across Nowhere.

This film literally had me glued from start to finish. You will quickly get caught up in this incredible story which will remind you how insignificant your problems are compared to those that others may experience. Anna Castillo is truly incredible in this role. On the other hand, I strongly advise against it for the claustrophobic…

The film’s story

Nowhere or rather Nowhere in French is a K-drama how I like them. It’s a magnificent lock-up for survivors. The heroine (played by Anna Castillo) is pregnant and drifting in a container on the open sea. She must survive for herself, for her baby, for the father of her child. Don’t just judge this film by the first fifteen minutes. Go all the way. It highlights the extraordinary ability of human beings to face desperate situations and to persevere even in the worst circumstances.
The film is rhythmic, we never get bored for a second. The heroine is endearing, full of love and rage for life.

If you are going through difficult, very difficult times, I highly recommend Nowhere. Emotionally, you will be touched and this will surely create a trigger in you so as not to give up in the adversity you face.

Lessons learned from the film

I have learned for you seven life lessons that this film, available on Netflix, teaches us:

#1- Be mentally strong

In times of doubt, remember the powerful inner strength within you. Life may present you with seemingly insurmountable challenges, but by tapping into this strength, you can overcome adversity with unwavering resilience. Be resolute, persevere, and let this strength guide you through the darkness into the light.

#2- Maintain your dreams against all odds

Never let your dreams slip away, even when the path seems winding and uncertain. Persistence is the key that opens the unexpected doors to success.

Whatever obstacles come your way, keep moving forward with determination. Perseverance can turn impasses into brilliant opportunities.

#3- A mother’s love is unique

Yes, a mother’s love and devotion are unique, but their power transcends the boundaries of family. By observing this love, you can learn to love deeply and sacrifice for those you care about. I am a parent and I can confirm that to you.

When you give and receive this love, it becomes an inexhaustible source of inspiration to achieve extraordinary achievements. Think of the mother who overcomes everything to protect her child. This unconditional love can be the key that unlocks the unlimited potential within you.

#4- Nature is an excellent source of inspiration

Nature offers us invaluable wisdom. Take the time to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, as it has the power to calm our minds and inspire us. By caring for our natural environment, we also contribute to creating a better world for future generations. Every breath of wind, every bird song, every sunset are reminders of the timeless wisdom of nature.

#5- Honor your commitments

Your promises are a reflection of your integrity and your reputation. Your honor lies in the word given and in the ability to keep your commitments. Always keep your promises, for they are a testament to your word and your honor. When you follow through on your commitments, you raise your own moral value and inspire confidence in others.

In a world where lying has become “normal” and the truth “bizarre”, it is difficult to explain the notion of honor to children, and if I had to pass on even one quality to my children beyond all others it would be this one. The worst part is that the question shouldn’t even be asked. But unfortunately !

#6- Enjoy every moment to the fullest

By fully savoring each experience, you imbue yourself with gratitude and joy. This mindful attitude transforms ordinary moments into priceless memories. Life is made up of a series of moments, and every moment is precious. So, live it to the fullest!

Every day is a precious gift, an opportunity to live, to love, and to be grateful for the little miracles that mark your path.

#7- The connection is real

Never forget that we are all connected, that our actions and words have the power to change the trajectory of other people’s lives. An act of kindness, no matter how humble, can brighten someone else’s life.

My comment

I’m not going to list all the unusual survival films (laughs). Nowhere is a great cinematic success.
Striking icy closed-doors, powerful in tension, in emotion, in creativity. I quickly let myself embark on this journey with a young mother full of resources and inventiveness to save her life and that of her newborn, with very few resources and the chance of critical failure. Maybe because I’m a mother? I don’t know.

Otherwise, after the coffin, the car, the chairlift and many others, I watched “ Nowhere ” which takes place in a shipping container (my goodness!). If again, it was only a box, but this one is in the middle of the ocean… The screenwriters took the time to bring the situation by evoking the world in which the story takes place in the instead of just throwing this big box in the water.

So I followed Miainterpreted by Anna Castillo, who must find a way to not sink and survive while hoping someone finds her in the middle of nowhere. To spice things up even more, Mia is pregnant and therefore needs to be even more careful. Ernest Rierawho notably co-wrote both « 47 meters down » spares nothing from the heroine. I was captivated by the misadventures of a young pregnant woman in a future where totalitarianism kills and assassinates the people. Helplessness, isolation, fear, so many feelings felt by Mia who shows great resourcefulness in the face of adversity. I couldn’t imagine everything she was going to do with such an empty container… Her goal: to reach Ireland, the only Eldorado.
I’ve moved on from plot conveniences or inconsistencies (totally absurd details like a cell phone battery that lasts 9 days when mine barely lasts 9 hours, a crazy 5G network available in the middle of the ocean when I often don’t receive nothing in the city center and the best for last, a container riddled with bullets, which takes water from everywhere but which floats because we block the holes with adhesive tape hahahahaha).
At least there’s a lot going on even if it’s far-fetched. If it is a bit too long, “ Nowhere » is a survival under tension that’s pretty good and carried by a convincing Anna Castillo.

This film is, for me, almost perfect in the survival genre. Exciting, well acted, well written, with a beautiful soundtrack. In short: a film not to be forgotten.

I found the storyline quite interesting; it’s not the film of the year, but the construction is clever and rather innovative.

I hope you like it too.
Until then, take good care of yourself!

With all my love, Badal.
