Pål Golberg sprints past Johannes Høsflot Klæbo – quadruple Norwegian in the 20 kilometers in Canmore – Dagsavisen

The Norwegians led the way from start to finish, and four Norwegians were also the first to cross the finish line.

Golberg sprinted past Johannes Høsflot Klæbo in the battle for victory and prevented the Trønder from becoming a double winner on Canadian soil. Mattis Stenshagen took third place just behind Klæbo in second place, while World Cup leader Harald Østberg Amundsen was fourth.

– It sat. There was a little flashback to a year ago. I had a terrible day here on Friday and have been wondering if I’m just finished, but now I’m back again, said the winner to Viaplay.

Golberg was also stronger than Klæbo in the five-mile run in the Planica WC a year ago.

– Pål is a tough bastard in a race like this. It’s the second time I’ve been hit by him like this. The question is whether I don’t have to start training steeplechase until next year, Klæbo said after the race.

Strong Norwegian team effort

Erik Valnes (number six), Simen Hegstad Krüger (eighth place) and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget (eleventh place) provided seven Norwegians among the eleven best.

The very high pace was long overdue on Sunday and 25 runners were in the tight group when there were just under seven kilometers of the race left.

It didn’t really come to a head until the last lap and Simen Hegstad Krüger took the lead together with Johannes Høsflot Klæbo.

Nevertheless, no one managed to pull away completely from the rest, and in the end it had to be asked about the victory.

Earlier on Sunday, Heidi Weng went into third place at the same distance. On Saturday, Klæbo secured victory in the sprint. On Friday, Krüger walked away with the victory in the 15-kilometer race.

On Tuesday, there will be a classic sprint in Canmore, before the World Cup circus moves across the border to the USA and Minneapolis at the weekend.
