Peter Maffay will perform on Sunday, August 4th at 8 p.m. as part of the Great Saxony Meeting 2024 at the Groen Ring in Sibiu. It is his first concert in his homeland and promises to be an extraordinary event for Sibiu and Transylvania. Peter Maffay’s concert was announced yesterday at a press conference in the Hall of Mirrors at the Hermannstadt Forum.

Peter Maffay announced his concert on August 4th, 2024 in Sibiu in a video message. Peter Maffay, who was born in Kronstadt, will turn 75 on August 30th, 2024. Shortly beforehand, the rock superstar goes on his last big tour in Germany. Peter Maffay’s farewell tour begins on June 21st in Rostock and ends on July 20th in Leipzig.

Yesterday, March 26th, the press conference for the Great Saxony Meeting 2024 took place in the Hall of Mirrors of the Hermannstadt Forum. Martin Bottesch, chairman of the Democratic Forum of Germans in Transylvania (DFDS), Andrea Rost, chairman of the German Youth Association of Transylvania, Michael Schmidt, chairman of the Michael & Veronika Schmidt Foundation, and Wolfgang Kber, member of the Michael & Veronika Schmidt Foundation and chairman of the German Business Club of Transylvania, announced details of the Great Saxony Meeting 2024: The musician Peter Maffay will offer a concert on August 4th on the Great Ring. The concert is made possible thanks to the commitment and financing of the M&V Schmidt Foundation, which is a partner of the event.

The Great Saxony Meeting takes place under the patronage of the Romanian President Klaus Werner Johannis. The motto of the event is Home without Borders; in Romanian Pretutindeni acasă. The three-day program includes around 50 cultural events that will take place in the center of Sibiu. Concerts, theater and folk dance performances, film screenings, exhibitions, city tours and much more are planned. Photo: Transylvania Forum According to the organizers, the aim of the meeting is to strengthen the ties between the emigrated Saxons and their homeland and to awaken the interest of the younger generation in Transylvania. After the success of the major event in 2017, the organizers are expecting around 10,000 participants this year too.

For all events that take place as part of the Great Saxony Meeting 2024 from August 2nd to 4th in Sibiu, there will be a festival badge priced at 15 euros, which can be purchased at Pentecost at the Home Day of the Transylvanian Saxons in Dinkelsbhl.
