After Porto frustrated his arrival at Cruz Azul, the Portuguese club is having controversial actions with Jorge Sánchez.

Regarding the closing of the transfer market, Cruz Azul tried to close a signing that would have meant a real bombshell for Liga MX. After the departure of Juan Escobar was confirmed, Iván Alonso was working to reinforce the right sector of the defense. With that goal in mind, the club began moving to hire Jorge Sánchez, who intended to return to Mexican soccer.
The 26-year-old full-back’s transfer belongs to Ajax, but he has been on loan in Porto since August 2023. The reality is that Sánchez did not have many opportunities there and was quite relegated by Sérgio Conceição, his coach.. It is for this reason that in Cruz Azul there was a lot of positivism with which the signing could occur; since all parties benefited from this situation.
Although ‘The Machine’ had reached an agreement with the player and Ajax, Porto refused to interrupt his loan due to a request from the Portuguese coach. The unusual thing about this is that Sánchez was not even called up for the duel that was suspended this morning between Porto and Santa Clara for the Portugal Cup. It is clear that since it is a secondary competition, these matches are used to give substitutes a run for their money.
It is evident that in Porto a very adverse situation was generated for Jorge Sánchez who is not taken into account, but who was not allowed to leave either.. His loan with the Portuguese institution ends in June of this year, so Cruz Azul could make another attempt in the next market. Even so, there was great disappointment in La Noria when his signing was frustrated because almost everything was closed.
Does Cruz Azul need a right back?
In the last games it was Ignacio Rivero who occupied the right back position and, against Querétaro, he showed a great level. However, Martín Anselmi does not have many options to fill that position throughout Clausura 2024. It is true that Rodrigo Huescas can fulfill that role normally, but the Argentine coach believes that the best version of him is when he plays as a forward.
So, the hiring of Jorge Sánchez not only had to do with increasing the hierarchy of the squad, but also with a need to reinforce that position.. Likewise, the current Porto full-back fit perfectly with Martín Anselmi’s style since he not only has a strong offensive vocation, but is also firm in his marking. And although his past in America was somewhat strong, the fans had shown themselves in favor of this hiring on social networks.
