Around 22,000 people are expected today at the large ‘Platinum party at the Palace’, an open air concert to be held in front of Buckingham Palace during which Prince Charles and his son William, Duke of Cambridge, will pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth. In what will be the highlight of the third day of public events for the platinum jubilee celebrating the 96-year-old queen’s 70 years of reign, Diana Ross, Andrea Bocelli, Hans Zimmer, Queen with Adam Lambert on vocals, Alicia will take the stage. Keys, George Ezra and Sam Ryder.
Tonight’s concert will be broadcast live by the BBC on the radio, on TV and online starting at 9.00pm Italian time. It will last about 2 and a half hours. The queen is not expected to attend and she will be watching it on TV in Windsor Castle. Yesterday the presence of the sovereign was also excluded at the equestrian Epsom Derby Day.
The eve of the concert was tainted by a bomb scare, with British police forced to evacuate Trafalgar Square for a suspicious package.
