LONDON – Locked in prison in Moscow awaiting trial, accused of helping a Kazakh oligarch hostile to the Kremlin to steal the equivalent of one billion dollars, the Russian lawyer Olena Tyshchenko does not have much hope of obtaining freedom. But one day the lawyer receives a visit in prison from an English lawyer, the bearer of an offer that she would never have expected: if she testified before the High Court of London against the oligarch who until then had been hers client, Russia would immediately order his release and the charges against him would fall.
