Legislator Susel Paredes (Democratic Change – Together for Peru) harshly confronted this Tuesday the parliamentarians who are promoting the dismissal of the members of the National Board of Justice (JNJ), the highest body of the Judiciary, calling them “brutes.” “, “idiots” and “clumsy”, after the Permanent Commission approved sending a report to debate and vote by the plenary session that proposes accusing and removing all jurists.

The document had been approved last February by the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of the Legislature, which recommended that the plenary session of the JNJ be accused and disqualified for 10 years for alleged constitutional infractions.

“Look how brutal those are who do not interpret things according to the law and with logic, what is going to happen is that the Board will not be able to meet because there will not be a quorum. They interpret the norm in a hurry. Then, judges will not be able to be elected or ratified, nor will those who direct the ONPE, the Reniec and the Jury. [Nacional de Elecciones]”, declared the deputy in dialogue with Exitosa.

The Permanent Commission voted on the report separately by each of the seven members of the JNJ, which in each case received the majority support of parliamentarians from right-wing and ultra-conservative groups, as well as from Perú Libre. Now, the approved text must be debated and voted on by the plenary session next March, when the next legislature will begin.

“There is no legal basis to disqualify them, there is no legal basis to dismiss them, what there is [son] political reasons because the JNJ are the championship table and the referees of the parties that see the trials and elections,” Paredes remarked, considering that, if the initiative finally comes to fruition, it would be “a shot in the foot.”

“What are you going to do if there is no quorum if they paralyze the Board? It may be worse, it may not be worse. […] They are so clumsy that, since they cannot see far away, they quickly do what they need right now. […] Well, let them shoot, then. If they shoot, they won’t walk. The votes are not determined by logic or what is legally correct, they are determined by necessity. They need their defendants to be released, they need their candidate who never wins,” she said, referring to the leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori.

Her father, the former dictator who established a regime between 1990 and 2000, had indicated last week that the orange party had agreed to the continuity of President Dina Boluarte until July 2026, the date on which the next presidential elections will be held.

As a result of Paredes’ statements, the Fujimori deputy Juan Carlos Lizarzaburu filed a complaint with the Ethics Commission “for serious misconduct.” […] with the purpose of imposing the maximum sanction,” according to the document. Lizarzaburu, precisely, was suspended for making sexist comments against his bench colleague, Patricia Juárez, after an accusation made by Paredes.

Feminist organizations such as Manuela Ramos defined the comment as sexual assault by demanding sanctions against the parliamentarian, who has already led other outbursts by calling the wyhipala, the flag adopted by some indigenous peoples of Peru, a “chifa tablecloth.”
