Trabzonspor fans storm the pitch, police arrest twelve rioters

Fan scandal in Turkey: After the Süper Lig game between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce Istanbul (2:3), violent supporters of the hosts caused a scandal. After the end of the game, several fans ran onto the lawn of the Trabzonspor Stadium, after which there were several physical altercations with cheering players and guests’ support staff.

Pictures show, among other things, how a spectator threatens an Istanbul player with a corner flag. According to media reports, Fenerbahce goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic received a punch in the face.

The Belgian national player and former Dortmund player Michy Batshuayi, who secured Fenerbahce’s victory in the final phase with 3-2 (87th), kicked a fan who was running onto the grass, as can be seen in another video.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced an investigation into the incidents. Yerlikaya wrote on It said in a statement that “those responsible for these incidents will be subject to the necessary criminal sanctions.”

As Yerlikaya later announced, twelve rioters have now been arrested. Five other people who had called for violence on social networks were also arrested.

The most important things about football in brief

The incidents join a long list of violent acts that have recently shaken Turkish football. Last December, the Turkish championship was suspended for a week after a referee was attacked during a first division game between clubs Ankaragücü and Rizespor.

According to Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal, his team was attacked by spectators in the stands during the game.

“We were attacked by the stands in a way that we did not expect and that I could not understand. Throwing so many objects at our wings and full-backs affected our game,” he said after the game.

In addition, one of his players was hit in the head by an object after about an hour, said the angry Fener coach. Kartal criticized that the game should have been stopped at that point.

A shocked Fenerbahce coach said he had also been hit in the head by water bottles: “I have a bump on my head.”

Fenerbahce’s players reacted angrily to the scandalous scenes on X. Batshuayi posted angry emojis, Serdar Dursun chose martial words. “The blood on my jersey is our honor. Fenerbahce to the last drop of our blood,” he wrote, showing a jersey that appeared to have a blood stain on it.

Fenerbahce’s Fred put the guests in the lead in the first half with a brace (13th, 45th + 4). Trabzonspor equalized the game after the break with goals from Enis Bardhi (63′) and Trezeguet (78′), before ex-BVB striker Batshuayi scored the visitors’ winning goal.

After the 30th matchday in the Süper Lig, Fenerbahce is in second place behind league leaders Galatasaray. Trabzonspor is third, but has a total of 30 points less.

According to Turkish media reports, Fenerbahce players had to stay in the stadium for almost three hours after the game. The police also secured every single access to the expressway that leads to the city’s airport. To avoid collisions within the small airport, the team bus was allowed to drive directly onto the tarmac, local media reported.
