July 4th, local time,Tyson Foods of the United States issued a statement saying that it will recall nearly 8.5 million pounds (about 3.85 million kilograms) of chicken that may be infected with Listeria.Tyson said in the statement that because the chicken food may have been exposed to a harmful bacteria-Listeria, it issued a recall notice out of “high caution” considerations.
The company said: “Although there is no conclusive evidence that the product was contaminated at the time of shipment, out of prudent consideration, the company will initiate a voluntary recall procedure.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) stated in a statement that its subsidiary, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, was notified on June 9 that two people had contracted listeriosis, a form of Listeria from the intestines. An infection caused by the spread of the tract to other parts of the body. The agency believes that there is evidence that Listeria is related to pre-cooked chicken produced by Tyson Foods. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,The symptoms of serious illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes begin to appear about 1 to 4 weeks after eating contaminated food. Symptoms may include headache, neck stiffness, loss of balance, confusion and convulsions, as well as fever and muscle aches.The U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that these frozen ready-to-eat products were produced between December 26, 2020 and April 13, 2021. These foods have been distributed to retailers and various institutions across the United States, including hospitals, schools, and the Department of Defense. The Ministry of Agriculture advises consumers not to consume these products, and also advises retailers and various institutions not to sell this batch of products.
