The Biden administration is expected to announce today a series of sanctions against Russian individuals and entities, as well as the expulsions of a dozen Russian diplomats from the United States in response to election interference and the SolarWinds cyberattack. CNN reports this, citing two sources familiar with the dossier. Government and intelligence executives, as well as entities involved in cyber intrusion, are targeted.
The measures would also take the form of an executive order. Another source merely reported that the US administration will take measures against Russia today and that it is coordinating with its European allies. The Biden government had already sanctioned Moscow for the poisoning and incarceration of Russian opponent Alexiei Navalny, but the US president had promised to respond to all hostile actions by the Kremlin. This position, the White House recalled, also reiterated in its second phone call to President Vladimir Putin, while proposing a summit in a third country to address common problems.
