The 24H2 update, in version 26040, marks the definitive end of this application, which has been an integral part of Microsoft’s operating system since Windows 98.
When asked why Microsoft decided to remove the legendary word processor, introduced in 1995, after 28 years, the company’s answer could be found in the desire to direct users more precisely to Microsoft Word and Windows Notepad tekst procesore.

Microsoft now recommends that users use Word in the future for “rich” text documents (rich text format – RTF), such as “.doc” and “.rtf”, while the smaller Notepad is intended for documents with the extension “.txt”.
WordPad, however, is not the only application to suffer this fate. The new update, which was released five days ago on Microsoft’s Canary Channel for software testers, should end the software life of several more apps such as: Cortana, Mail, Calendar, Maps, People and Movies & TV.
