Big “smoking” at the Brandenburg Gate: Numerous people gathered in Berlin for the partial legalization of cannabis that came into force on Monday. A spokesman for the Berlin police told the AFP news agency that they demonstratively lit their “tobacco mixtures” at midnight to great cheers.
According to the police, a total of around 1,500 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate in the capital for the partial legalization of cannabis. At the meeting, which, according to police reports, began shortly before midnight and ended around an hour and a half later, an oversized model of a hemp plant was set up.
The law partially legalizing cannabis came into force on Monday. Adults are allowed to carry up to 25 grams of cannabis with them and also grow the substance themselves. Consumption remains prohibited in the immediate presence of minors and near schools, daycare centers and sports facilities.
You are allowed to store up to 50 grams of cannabis at home; three plants can be grown for home cultivation. From July 1st, cultivation and distribution via cultivation associations, so-called cannabis clubs, will be possible. In traffic it remains the case that driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs is prohibited.
