Private energy transition with heat pumps and electric cars

Because only in combination, in a private one Sector coupling, the individual devices such as electric cars, solar systems and heat pumps can fully exploit their technical advantages and ultimately save energy costs. What energy experts from the Fraunhofer Institute and many universities have been preaching for a long time, the DIW people have now calculated in black and white for private households from a purely economic perspective: As an individual measure, switching from fossil fuel to electric often brings about a significant reduction in CO2, but usually little in monetary terms. “Especially when they work together, roof PV, electric cars and heat pumps can save significant money in the long term compared to the old, fossil fuel world – despite the relatively high German electricity prices,” says Anne-Christin Winkler, economist at DIW Econ, one of the authors of the commissioned study.
