Theo Stratmann: Rezo criticizes “Ctrl F” research

Youtuber Rezo has recently repeatedly criticized the radio format “Ctrl F”. picture alliance / Panama Pictures/Christoph Hardt

Rezo accuses the “Ctrl F” YouTube format, which is financed by public broadcasting, of improper research.

Specifically, it’s about the Theo Stratmann case. In his video, Rezo repeats voice messages from a “Ctrl F” reporter to Stratmann, in which the reporter is only supposed to ask for evidence of Stratmann’s finances after the documentation has been published. So far he has only seen pictures from a Snapchat story.

“Ctrl F” portrayed the 18-year-old Stratmann as the “super-rich” last year in a viral documentary called “Private Jets, Yachts, Caviar: How Do the Super-Rich Affect the Climate?” Research by Business Insider had raised doubts about this.

Half of YouTube Germany talked about Theo Stratmann last year. The 18-year-old was a prominent protagonist in a documentary on YouTube format “Ctrl F”. The title: “Private jets, yachts, caviar: How do the super-rich influence the climate?” In it he stood out with his pithy sayings. However, research by Business Insider last year raised doubts about the 18-year-old’s alleged wealth.

Who is Theo Stratmann and how did he become known?

Theo Stratmann became known through the documentary on the public service format “Ctrl F” with the title “Private jets, yachts, caviar: How do the super-rich influence the climate?” In it, Stratmann is the wasteful snob. Caviar, for example, is just a taste teaser for him. He claims that he is going to Sylt by private jet. He doesn’t reveal how he got rich. There are only vague suggestions: sometimes it was e-commerce, sometimes real estate or a social media agency.

The documentary – especially Stratmann – was still well received by the audience. More than 4.1 million people have now seen the video. Stratmann himself also benefited from the newfound attention. The number of his Instagram followers shot up to more than 20,000. There he waters flowers with champagne or pours it directly into the sea.

A few weeks after “Ctrl F” published the article, Stratmann gave “Bild” another interview. There, too, he attracted attention again with calculatedly provocative statements. “I don’t work for just any boss and am trapped in the matrix so that I can save up for a year’s vacation on Malle. “I’m glad there are garbage men who throw away my shit,” he said. Or: “While all the other bums have to get up at 7 a.m., I’m still sleeping and don’t start my day until 12 p.m.”

Stratmann knew how to turn it into a business. And together with his friend Hergen Hincke, he cobbled together an e-commerce course that costs up to 1,997 euros.

Now Youtuber throws Network The “Ctrl F” format financed by public broadcasting is used for improper research. As evidence, he had “a whole series of voice messages” from a “Ctrl F” reporter to Theo Stratmann. Theo Stratmann gave it to Rezo himself. In the video, Rezo repeats some excerpts from these messages. In it, the reporter apparently begs Stratmann after Publication of documentation from Stratmann. The reason was comments that cast doubt on Stratmann’s wealth.

The editorial team is said to have only asked for evidence after publication

There is “a bit of something in the room now and it would be cool if you could prove it to us,” the reporter is said to say in the voice messages. This way the reporter can be sure that the editorial team has not made a mistake. To date, Stratmann has only shown him pictures from his Snapchat history in which he flew on a private jet.

In addition, the reporter also wanted to question Theo Stratmann’s mother afterwards, reports Rezo. According to the mother’s statement, the editors of “Ctrl F” wanted to “pressurize” her into providing bank statements. As a rule, such evidence and facts must be checked before journalistic articles are published.

Business Insider research raised doubts about Stratmann’s wealth last year

Business Insider also researched Stratmann last year – and came across a number of questionable online shops in his area. Stratmann’s father, the former Lower Saxony State Minister for Science and Culture Lutz Stratmann (CDU), also expressed doubts in an interview with Business Insider as to how his son got his alleged wealth. However, he also admitted that he had not had any contact with his son for years.

At the time, Business Insider confronted Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), which is responsible for “StrgF”, with the research. The broadcaster responded in a statement: “Not all of the protagonists in the film can be considered “super rich”. This also applies to Theo Stratmann.” The NDR also pointed out that a preliminary discussion and “verifying research” had taken place. People have seen pictures “of his flights in a private jet” and spoken to witnesses from his environment.

But why is the YouTuber Rezo once again dealing with the Theo Stratmann case? Rezo was also the focus of a documentary by “Ctrl F”. In a critical article about the manufacturer of dietary supplements “More Nutrition”, “Ctrl F” also listed Rezo as the advertising face of the brand. Rezo then worked intensively on “Ctrl F” and accused the editorial team of having worked improperly on the article.
