Berlin (dts news agency) – After the train drivers’ union GDL announced another strike on Sunday evening, there was a hail of criticism from various quarters.

Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) made serious accusations against GDL boss Claus Weselsky: “Striking instead of negotiating is irresponsible,” he told the “Bild-Zeitung”. The GDL needs to talk and explore compromises. “It can’t go on like this, formal arbitration proceedings must urgently be initiated here, Mr. Weselsky continues to overreach,” said the minister.

The Pro Bahn passenger association also spoke up on Sunday evening: “It’s slowly becoming a rampage, the passengers are losing patience, they’ve actually already lost it,” said association leader Detlef Neuß to the “Rheinische Post” for the Monday edition.

“In this way, the GDL is damaging the acceptance of strikes in the public sector.” At least there was advance notice of the strike, “even if less than 48 hours.” At the same time, Neuß finally called on politicians to take action: “In our opinion, as the owner of DB AG, politicians are too cautious,” said the association boss. Everything must now be done to mediate the collective bargaining dispute.

After the railway missed a deadline set by the union for a written offer, it announced a 24-hour strike on Sunday evening, which is scheduled to begin in passenger transport on Tuesday at 2 a.m.
