Italian cinema goes to the Oscars: “I Captain” by Matteo Garrone enters the top five international films, together with the great favorite “The Zone of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer (United Kingdom), “The Snow Society” by Juan Antonio Bayona (Spain), “Perfect Days” by Wim Wenders (Japan) and “The Teachers’ Lounge” by İlker Çatak (Germany).
Obtaining the statuette during the ceremony on March 10th will not be easy, but being among the nominees is in any case a great victory for all of Italian cinema.

During the Oscar presentation, however, the spotlight will be focused above all on Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” (with 13 nominations), a great favorite among the candidates for the most important award. After having won the Golden Globe for best dramatic feature film and numerous other awards, “Oppenheimer” will also try to win the Oscar for best film, but will have to contend above all with competition from “Poor Creatures!” by Yorgos Lanthimos, “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig and “Killers of the Flower Moon” by Martin Scorsese.

The other candidates for the main title are “American Fiction” by Cord Jefferson, “Anatomy of a Fall” by Justine Triet, “The Holdovers” by Alexander Payne, “Maestro” by Bradley Cooper, “Past Lives” by Celine Song and the already quoted “The Zone of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer.

Christopher Nolan also aims to be the best director, within a five which includes Martin Scorsese, Justine Triet, Jonathan Glazer and Yorgos Lanthimos.

Actresses and actors

Beautiful challenge in the five best leading actresses between Emma Stone, extraordinary in “Poor Creatures!”, and Lily Gladstone, surprising in “Killers of the Flower Moon”. The victory of Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”) or Annette Bening (“Nyad”) is decidedly less likely.
