Lo-Reninge –

In episode five of the fiction series Chantal, which was shown on Sunday evening on VRT 1, inspector Chantal Vantomme bought donuts at the Yves & Els bakery on the Markt in Lo. “That’s great publicity,” says manager An Haeyaert. “People talk about it in the store.”

The recordings of Chantal’s second series date back to two years ago. So the scene in the Yves & Els bakery has been set for a while. At that time, Patrick Derieuw still operated the bakery. An Haeyaert has been behind the counter since November last year.

“So I was not present at the recordings,” she says. “But it is of course very nice that the store comes into the picture. Great publicity.”

Café ‘In de Misérie’, the favorite pub of Rik Cloedt and inspector Chantal Vantomme in the series, is also not unknown territory for An. “That used to be a restaurant,” she says. “I went there for dinner. But the case is now closed.” (read more below photo)

Filmed for 5 hours

Patrick Derieuw, the previous manager of Yves & Els bakery, also saw the episode. “I recorded it and watched it on Monday,” he says. “I suspect that they chose the bakery as a film location because it is close to the administrative center (in the Loveringem police station series, ed.). The recordings lasted more than five hours. In the end, no more than thirty seconds of this was broadcast. The store was completely redesigned. They also asked me if I wanted to play the role of a baker. But I thanked you for the honor. The production crew and actress Maaike Cafmeyer were very friendly. After the recordings they tidied everything up nicely. Nothing to complain about.”

Fans of the fictional series can now buy a donut in the bakery where Chantal also purchased the treats. “Nice advertisement for my successor An,” concludes Patrick Derieuw.
