6,000 Euro Rural Medicine Scholarship Available for Galician Doctors: Apply by May 15

The Association of Galician Doctors (Asomega) and the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG) have announced the opening of applications for the third edition of their Rural Medicine Scholarship. The scholarship, supported by Menarini, is worth 6,000 euros and aims to support projects that focus on welfare, teaching, or research initiatives in the rural areas of Galicia.

According to the rules, practicing Medicine graduates in the field of Galician Primary Care are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Projects that show a commitment to putting the proposed initiatives into practice and continuity of work will be considered. The scholarship amount may be distributed among several deserving projects, based on the criteria set by the Asomega and SEMG scientific committees.

This year, the scholarship has the endorsement of Sergas, the Galician Health Service, recognizing the importance of addressing the needs of rural medicine. Family Medicine professionals from rural areas in Galicia have until May 15 to submit their applications. The results will be announced at the end of May, and the scholarship will be presented during the 30th National Congress of General and Family Medicine held by SEMG from June 13 to 15 in A Coruña.

Pilar Rodríguez Ledo, president of SEMG, emphasized the significance of Rural Medicine in providing equitable access to medical care in areas with limited accessibility. She also highlighted the role of rural medicine in promoting population health, enriching medical training, fostering community medicine, and encouraging research and innovation in underrepresented rural areas.

The deadline for applications for the Rural Medicine Scholarship is approaching fast, so interested individuals are encouraged to submit their proposals by May 15 for a chance to receive the 6,000 euros award and contribute to the development of rural healthcare in Galicia.
