Among the many novelties of Apple’s autumn event, one was not mentioned directly by Tim Cook or by the other executives of Cupertino. To find it you have to search online, on the apple website, under Accessories. And so a “Cleaning cloth” comes out, square in shape, of which not even the dimensions are indicated. “The soft, non-abrasive cleaning cloth cleans all types of Apple displays safely and effectively, and is also perfect for nano-textured glass,” the description reads. As expected, the cloth has a very minimalist design: it is white, with a tone-on-tone Apple logo.
Apple’s cloth seems especially dedicated for users of the Pro Display XDR. Apple specifically warns not to use any type of cloth on the Pro Display XDR with nano-fabric, except the one supplied with the monitor. Until now, the Cupertino-based company didn’t sell these cleaning cloths separately – they had to be ordered from Apple Support.
The nano-texture displays are characterized by a special glass engraving at the nanometric level that allows for a matte finish, with less reflections while maintaining the quality of the images. And yet it seems somewhat delicate, so much so that according to Apple it can be damaged by other cleaning cloths. The advantage of the original one, however, is that it can be used to clean the displays of practically every Apple device: the list of compatible products is the longest ever seen on the Apple website, and includes about seventy devices, including brand new and older. From the iPhone to the MacBook Pro, from the iPad (but only the most recent models, who knows why) to the Apple Watch. Almost nothing is missing that has a glass, indeed there is also the iPod Shuffle that does not.
It is not entirely clear how the $ 25 Apple polishing cloth is different from other similar microfiber cloths that cost up to twenty times less, but it is clear instead that the public appreciates the idea: while we are writing the waiting times are at least a month.
