Copetti dead, ‘regaining the passion of being a doctor’ – Healthcare

Free spirit, esteemed clinician, critical care cardiologist and hard worker; man with a deep passion for the profession practiced with authority. And then dedication, critical spirit and irony. These are the characteristics recognized by the critical area cardiologist Roberto Copetti, former director of the emergency room of the combined hospitals of Trieste and “pioneer” of multi-organ ultrasound, whose funeral was held in Gemona (Udine).

Copetti, who was 70 years old, from Carnia, died due to a neoplastic disease; he had directed numerous emergency and first aid organizations in Friuli Venezia Giulia, he worked in the hospital of Tolmezzo, then Trieste at the time of Gino Tosolini, then again Tolmezzo, Latisana, again Trieste and finally Latisana. Considered a great leader, especially towards young people and students in particular, who admired him, Copetti was remembered during the ceremony not only for his medical culture, but also for his moral integrity, creativity and passion.

Gianfranco Sinagra, Director of the ASUGI Cardiothoracovascular Department, underlines his “clinical ability” associated with “diagnostic creativity, passion and pragmatism” and, indeed, the spirit of “pioneer of multi-organ ultrasound which from skepticism led to international operational algorithms for classification and management of critically ill patients”.

Rodolfo Sbroiavacca, former director of the Emergency Department and Emergency Medicine at Udine Hospital, defined him as “a giant of critical care medicine”.

In addition to relatives, friends and colleagues, nurses and other professional categories in the sector were also present at the funeral.

Finally, the teachings of the late doctor were remembered: “We must regain the passion of being a doctor to concretely solve people’s problems, we must recover the passion in the training of professionals and in the transfer of knowledge and in the construction of new organizations”.
