Enpam, the social security body for doctors and dentists, “joins the request that the heirs of family doctors who died due to Covid be recognized for their arrears from 2019, in light of the signing of the new national collective agreement for the category”, after the topic was raised in recent hours by Fimmg, the majority union of general practitioners.
“Family doctors were the first to fight Covid with their bare hands – recalls the president of the Cassa Alberto Oliveti – especially in the first weeks in which little was known and little was understood about what was happening. It is, therefore, sacrosanct recognize the family members of these colleagues of ours for the arrears relating to that dramatic period of work”, he continues.
Four years after the outbreak of the pandemic, Enpam recalls that “it is continuing with support activities for surviving family members, such as scholarships for the children of white coats who died with Covid, made available together with the Bank of Italy. And again, the guaranteed economic support, again to the families of the doctors who died during Covid, who are in difficult economic conditions”.
The social security body then continues “to support the need for the State to compensate the families of contracted doctors who have fallen in a similar measure to that granted to the families of employees. A bill in this sense, which would have seen the Enpam advance the necessary sums, had been presented during the previous legislature, but not approved”, we read again in a note.
“In the next few days – adds Oliveti – I will meet with the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci.
Aware of the sensitivity repeatedly demonstrated by the minister on this issue, it will be an opportunity to reiterate, also to this government, our belief that all doctors who have fallen while practicing their profession during the pandemic period must be guaranteed compensation, without any distinction compared to the category to which they belong”, concludes the president.
