Four steps towards the augmented human being

by admin

Throughout its history the human being has always tried to improve your physical condition, their performance, their abilities and at the same time has always sought solutions to mitigate their weaknesses or disabilities.

It is therefore part of the human nature the attempt to strengthen and improve oneself using the technologies available in a specific historical period in what over time has become a real field of international research that goes under the name of Human Augmentation and which is divided into four main lines.

The first director is characterized by the future massive presence on the market of a new generation of devices, smart glasses. Today it may seem strange to us, but in the next few years, as soon as the technology is ready and the right contents and services arrive, we will all use them, exactly as we use our smartphones today.

We will then be able to access new types of content and services, do virtual visits to museums and tourist destinations, we will be able to have directions directly in our field of vision, access information on a work of art we are looking at or reviews of the restaurant in front of us, without having to do anything but look at it.

More and more connected to our body we will have the devices belonging to family of wearable objects, the so-called “wearables”: among these we will find more and more watches, bracelets, rings or sensors of various kinds, up to real chips directly connected with our body. They will be devices capable of collecting increasingly sophisticated data on our health and vital parameters, to send them to our doctor and to build a broader ecosystem of knowledge composed of data from the entire population, which can be made available to artificial intelligence algorithms able to find new correlations between those data and some pathologies and thus make a new contribution to medical research.

Our relationship with machines will change thanks to the incredible increase in quality of voice interaction with our virtual assistants: today we are used to virtual assistants who understand little what we say and therefore are limited to trivial and repetitive tasks, but in the future the level of interaction will become comparable to what we have between human beings; this, in addition to simplifying our life, will cause us a bit of confusion and we will find ourselves out of politeness to thank and greet our voice assistants.

Ours too more physical relationship with machines will change thanks to the increasingly “invasive” use of 3d printing, which will allow us to create prostheses for amputees with simplified production processes compared to what happens today. With technologies similar to 3d printing we will be able to produce biological tissues, organs of varying complexity and to mix biological material with mechanical or electronic components, with truly extraordinary potential evolutions.

We therefore expect a path in which technology can play a fundamental role for increase the potential of the human being and in which professionals and companies will have to commit themselves not only on the technological front, but also and above all in innovating the model itself, always identifying new ways to improve people’s lives.

Throughout this extraordinary journey technology is our friend, it is up to us to make the most of it to build a better world together.
