MILAN – Yesterday, for the first time since the beginning of the second wave, the number of seriously ill people with Covid in Italy, i.e. those hospitalized in intensive care, dropped below 500, equivalent to 5% of the occupied beds. And these are mostly people who have not yet been vaccinated.
The identikit of the seriously ill in this phase in the nearby Peninsula was drawn up by Dr. Francesco Dentali, director of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Circolo di Varese hospital, who explained to the Ansa agency that they are “long-term patients date or unvaccinated people ”, adding that“ we take care of them, they understand for themselves that they have made a mistake and regret not having protected themselves ”.
The same confirmed to Corriere della Sera Professor Roberto Fumagalli, director of the Department of Anesthesia and Reanimation of the Niguarda Hospital in Milan. “These are mostly people who have not been vaccinated or who have become infected in the window between the first and second dose of vaccine.”
The Italian region with the highest number of intensive care beds occupied is Lombardy, which currently has 92 patients, with an average age of around 61-62 years.
