“Eat more slowly!”. Who knows how many times mothers and grandmothers have repeated it to us and it is not a way of saying. To stay healthy and in excellent physical shape, it is not enough to control what and how much we eat but we must also pay attention to how and at what speed we eat food. Various scientific studies have shown that eating too fast is very harmful. But to know if we are eating slowly enough or too quickly, just count the bites.

Just doing this very simple thing when we eat to get fewer calories, lose weight and feel full sooner and science confirms it.

When we eat we should chew every single bite at least 35 times.

This number was established by Xand van Tulleken, a British expert who studied at Oxford and Harvard and who carried out this experiment. 20 women were invited to eat a plate of pasta and stop as soon as they felt full. The result obtained saw that on average they chewed each bite 15-20 times.

Van Tulleken then elaborated on the matter with another experiment: he asked 10 women to chew each bite 35 times. It was found that those who had chewed less than 35 times had eaten 468 calories on average while those who had chewed the most felt satiety after 342 calories.
We are therefore talking about a difference of 124 calories, a significant amount on the overall daily calorie intake.

Abdominal fat

And it’s not over yet because in Japan the medical team of researchers from Hiroshima University has been monitoring the habits and weight of men and women for 5 years. It emerged that those who eat very greedily and too quickly have a greater accumulation of fat in the abdominal area.
