La Rioja Government Demands Urgent Measures for Primary Care Specialists in National Health System

The Ministry of Health and Social Policies of the Government of La Rioja has joined forces with other autonomous communities of Spain to demand urgent measures from the central Government in response to the lack of specialists in Family and Community Medicine. The Health Minister, María Martín, is calling for the immediate implementation of proposals to alleviate the shortage of professionals in primary care.

Martín has expressed her concerns over the lack of specialist doctors and is urging the Ministry of Health to provide a common response for all autonomous communities. She emphasizes the need for new teaching units to promote the training of more professionals, which the autonomous communities are willing to continue financing.

The manifesto proposes six urgent measures for the Ministry of Health to adopt in order to address the problem faced by Primary Care in Spain. These measures include ensuring that the MIR election system does not leave vacant places, introducing changes in the training system, and expanding the number of specialized medical training places in Family and Community Medicine.

Additionally, the manifesto urges the Ministry of Health to plan the training offer of the National Health System more rigorously in the future in order to prevent the appearance of deficits in certain specialties. La Rioja has joined neighboring communities such as Aragón and Cantabria in supporting this manifesto.

The Health Minister has confirmed La Rioja’s adherence to the manifesto and is calling for immediate action to address the shortage of specialists in Family and Community Medicine. The autonomous communities are coming together to demand a solution from the central Government in order to provide the best comprehensive care for citizens.
