“The accredited private individual is an ally of the public health system which, with its important activity, guarantees free services on the same conditions as the public, helping to contain the flight of patients to private individuals in other regions of Italy. Continue to propose ideological battles on this part of the region’s healthcare is not only misleading but also harmful to the system itself.” The regional health councilor, Riccardo Riccardi, said this while visiting the new service tower and the new operating rooms of the San Giorgio Polyclinic.
In the presence of the general director Maurizio Sist, and the general manager of Asfo Giuseppe Toniutti, Riccardi reiterated the importance that this structure has for western Friuli and for the entire regional system.
“The accredited private individual – he continued – ‘runs’ at a greater speed than the public and has greater flexibility, elements which allow him to modulate the organization at a speed consistent with health needs. Ours is one of the last regions in Italy in the relationship between public healthcare and accredited private sector. This is one of the elements that determines the flight of patients, since the numbers tell us that 70 percent of those who go elsewhere do so by going directly to the accredited private sector of the territories borders”. “For us it is of fundamental importance – concluded Riccardi – to guarantee free quality services to patients with professionals of great value. The accredited private individual is an important element of this mechanism, whose production value in Fvg stands at 8.9% one hundred while in the rest of Italy the average is around 18 percent. This translates, at a per capita level, into a value equal to 222 euros in our region, when in Veneto and Emilia the figure stands at 350 euros, while in Lombardy it reaches 550 euros”.
