Queen Emerita Sofia of Spain was hospitalized due to a urinary tract infection at the Ruber Clinic in Madrid. The Royal Palace released a statement confirming her hospitalization and stating that her recovery is progressing quickly and favorably.
The sudden and urgent hospitalization came as a surprise, as Queen Sofia has always enjoyed excellent health despite her age. The 85-year-old queen has been active in attending various social events, including weddings and funerals, in recent months.
Last Monday, Queen Sofia attended a funeral mass for her nephew Fernando Gómez-Acebo, who passed away at the age of 49 after battling a respiratory failure disease worsened by Covid and influenza A. Despite her recent hospitalization, the queen had spent the Easter holidays with her family in Mallorca and Malaga.
Sofia’s agenda, although less prominent since the abdication of King Juan Carlos, has still been filled with various official events and solidarity activities. The queen has always maintained good health and hopes to return to her royal duties soon after recovering from this infection.
