The attic collapses at a wedding party, 5 injured. The married couple discharged – News

An attic of a restaurant in Pistoia where a wedding reception was taking place collapsed: five people were taken to hospital and, explained the mayor of Pistoia Alessandro Tomasi, who immediately arrived at the event site, “everyone was offered the possibility of carrying out checks in hospitals. We are keen to monitor the red and yellow codes with the hope that the injured can be discharged as soon as possible. It is already a relief to know that no one’s life is in danger.”

Paolo Mugnaini and Valeria Ybarra, the two 26-year-old spouses who celebrated their wedding yesterday, have resigned. The young man, according to what we learn, is originally from the Florentine area and lives in Scandicci (Florence) while his wife is of American origin. The wedding had been celebrated a few hours earlier in the parish of San Bartolomeo in Tuto in Scandicci where the 26-year-old’s family also lives.

The married couple was released from the hospital where they had been taken for checks. For them, health sources say, only a few bruises and a lot of fear. Among the injured in code red who arrived yesterday in the Pistoia hospital was also a pregnant woman who is not in danger of life but who remains hospitalized for observation.

The collapse occurred in a hall on the first floor of the former Giaccherino convent, which has been used as a restaurant for some years. Some guests had already left the party, but around sixty people, mostly young people, remained inside the venue and they were dancing when suddenly the attic floor collapsed. The sinkhole swallowed up those present who found themselves on the ground floor, covered by debris.

A few dozen people were injured. Rescue services immediately arrived on the scene with several ambulances, the firefighters of the provincial command of Pistoia, the police, the carabinieri and the traffic police. There were no victims. There are many fire brigade teams on site, for the moment only from the Pistoia command. Dozens of Mercy, Public Assistance and Red Cross ambulances have arrived and are constantly coming and going and taking the injured to the various hospitals. Mayor Alessandro Tomasi also arrived on site.

“All hospitals have been alerted for timely aid and assistance in order to manage as many patients as possible. Beyond Pistoia, Prato, Lucca, Careggi and Cisanello, come on!”, wrote Giani. The public prosecutor of Pistoia, Tommaso Coletta, went to the restaurant where the floor collapsed in a hall on the first floor causing dozens of injuries. Rescue efforts are in full swing.

The waitress: ‘I heard screaming and crying’

We saw tables and glasses thrown, because everyone was scared, when they heard the loud noise, we went down passing near the room where the floor had collapsed and the other people had fallen and there was a lot of dust, we couldn’t see anything.”

It is the story of Genny, a waitress from the catering service, who witnessed the collapse of the attic in the former convent of Giaccherino, (Pistoia), which had been used as a restaurant for some years and where today a wedding reception was taking place. “It was me and a colleague of mine – she continues – and we heard screams and desperate people crying”.
