The vaccine works. This is demonstrated by the data processed by the Higher Institute of Health and disclosed in the latest report dated 8 September. The risk of Covid infection for people who have completed the vaccination course greatly decreases. The risk of contracting the virus is reduced by 77%, while the effectiveness in preventing hospitalization and 95.7% in preventing ICU admissions. Then there are also the data referring to those who have taken only one dose. In detail, according to the ISS report, the overall effectiveness of incomplete vaccination in preventing infection is 63%. The effectiveness in preventing hospitalization is 84.1%, while that in preventing admissions to intensive care is 90.8%. Finally, the effectiveness in preventing death, with only the first dose, is 83.8%.

RISK DOWN
“Is it true that those who are vaccinated get infected or die like those who are not? No! The reference populations are very different and the risk drops a lot in the vaccinated ». The Higher Institute of Health strongly reiterates this, pointing out that “Most of the cases notified in the last 30 days” in our country, we read by scrolling through the report, “were diagnosed in unvaccinated people. There is a strong reduction in the risk of Sars-CoV-2 virus infection in fully vaccinated people compared to unvaccinated ones ». In the over 80 age group, the death rate is 15 times higher for the unvaccinated. Also for the same age group, the hospitalization rate in the last 30 days for the unvaccinated is nine times higher than for the full cycle vaccinated. While as regards the number of hospitalizations in intensive care, it is observed that in the last month the rate is thirteen times lower than those not vaccinated. We then move on to young people. About 4 out of 10 teenagers aged 12 to 19 are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

UNDER 12 YEARS
In the last week, just over 50% of cases in the 0-19 year-old population were observed in the population under the age of 12, i.e. in the age group for which an anti Covid vaccine is not yet available. “The persistent increase in the incidence in the population aged under 12 that has been observed in recent weeks could be due to an increase in the number of tampons in this age group”, clarifies the report, “given the opening of schools and the imminent start of the new school year for primary and secondary school ». From V-Day of December 27 to September 8, the report takes stock, in our country “80,013,442 (40,725,178 first doses and 39,288,264 second / single doses) of the 91,758,318 vaccine doses were administered so far delivered. In the over 50 age group, the percentage of people who have completed the vaccination cycle is over 70%. The vaccination coverage for the other age groups (under 40) is higher than 60%, with the exception of the 12-19 group whose vaccination coverage with two doses amounts to 40.1%. “In all the Regions / Autonomous Provinces”, the ISS continues, “the vaccination coverage of the population aged between 12 and 59 years is greater than 60%, with a variability ranging from 60.4% in Bolzano to 72.3% of Lazio, excluding Tuscany and Sicily, where only 58% of the population in this age group has completed the vaccination cycle ».

TEN MILLION
Finally, there are more than 10 million Italians over the age of 12, out of a total vaccinable population of over 53 million, who have not even taken the first dose of the anti-Covid vaccine. There are 3.5 million over 50s without any coverage, while just under 1.7 million children between 12 and 19 are waiting. To these must be added more than 5 million Italians in the range between 20 and 49 years, which bring the total to 10 million the unvaccinated population or for which administration is not yet foreseen.
