“There are also excellences here. They should be valued”

by admin

The local news reports – including ours – are full of medical malpractice, but there is no shortage, and we want to emphasize them, the experiences of good health which translated, most of the time, means good professionals. Mr Maurizio Mancini, originally from Molise but residing in Emilia-Romagna for 3 decades, with a letter he gives us the opportunity to talk about this, specifically referring to the staff of the Internal Medicine department of the Termolese hospital. Hospital, like the others in the region, plagued by cuts and a drastic reduction in staff that compromise its full and best possible operation. But to compensate for all this there is the humanity, combined with the professionalism, of doctors and health personnel.

These are the words of the man who, despite the recent loss of his mother, is keen to tell his experience.

“I have been living in Bologna for about thirty years, an undisputed city for the quality of health services and the excellence of hospital facilities. This year I hospitalized my mother, who unfortunately passed away a few days ago, at the internal medicine department of the San Timoteo hospital in Termoli, and I was able to feel first-hand that the excellences are also present in the town of Molise. Not being a doctor, I certainly cannot judge whether the therapeutic process was the most suitable for the case, but the evidence of professionalism was shown in the attention and cooperative work of all the medical and nursing staff.

I would like to thank the doctors Del Vescovo, Patavino, Morelli, Toma and all the other doctors of the staff of the primary dr. Nicola Milan, who have demonstrated, with their work, that they care for the sick, establishing a clear and constant relationship with the family, informing us of the therapeutic and accompanying us with humanity and sensitivity during the journey that led to the tragic ending. On the other hand, the right to immortality has not yet been guaranteed to us.

I often read and hear about the San Timoteo medical malpractice and I would like, through this direct experience, put what works in the spotlight, to contribute in some way to regaining citizens’ trust in local health care and to remind institutions that the excellences are also present in “our” territory, which should therefore be enhanced and equipped with suitable structures.

Healthcare personnel and patients, both main actors of hospital structures, deserve dignified and comfortable environments, thus making it possible to make the hospital as welcoming and efficient as possible, favoring the dual action that is established among healthcare personnel, whose goal deontological is to cure, and among patients, whose hope is, and will always be, to heal feeling in good hands.

A sincere thanks to all the medical, nursing and health care staff “.
