MIAMI – A tragic incident unfolded in Riverview, western Florida, as a 14-year-old minor allegedly shot his mother to death and left her boyfriend in critical condition. Local authorities reported that the teenager was detained on Monday following the violent act.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister revealed that the police received an alert on Saturday afternoon regarding a minor wandering in a neighborhood south of Tampa, armed with a gun. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers encountered the suspect and attempted to order him to drop his weapon. However, their commands went unanswered, leading to a 16-minute negotiation with the young boy.

During this intense negotiation, the minor repeatedly raised the gun to his head, creating a tense environment for law enforcement. Faced with no other options, the officers were forced to make a split-second decision and execute a non-lethal shot. This action led to the suspect’s surrender and his subsequent detainment.

Inside the residence where the incident occurred, law enforcement officers discovered the mother’s boyfriend critically injured after sustaining five gunshot wounds. Furthermore, just a few houses away, the lifeless body of the mother was found at the entrance, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

According to the testimony of the detainee’s older brother, who was present during the incident, the tragic chain of events unfolded when he heard an argument between their mother and her boyfriend. Shortly after, gunshots rang out, prompting the brother to intervene. He witnessed the 14-year-old shoot their mother before fleeing the scene, allegedly with the intention of pursuing the boyfriend and inflicting further harm.

Sheriff Chronister expressed his sorrow over the incident, acknowledging the devastating consequences for all involved parties. “This 14-year-old’s life has also ended. He will never see the outside of a detention center,” he stated.
