Among rats and mosquitoes in the small jungle of Belluno. The unseemly corner of the former Bardin area

Massaro: “We’ll try to clean it up, even if it’s private.” Bristot: “We’re getting used to the ugly, it needs to be fixed”

BELLUNO. A jungle on the outskirts of the city. The former Bardin area, like every summer, returns to the spotlight due to the serious state of decay in which it is, among abandoned warehouses, marshes, only sketchy buildings and vegetation that has grown out of control, which make it a perfect habitat for rats and mosquitoes.

Over the years, the private area has required some maintenance by the Municipality and its volunteers to put a stop to the continuous worsening of its situation and, once again this year, it is hoped to be able to organize a general cleaning we have done in the past and, if possible, we will try to do it again this year, even if we know that it would absolutely not be our responsibility “, explains the mayor, Jacopo Massaro,” it is a demanding intervention, which forces us to use many people, thus distracting them from the already pressing calendar of planned interventions. I repeat, it would not be up to us, but we try to do it out of respect for the citizens who live in that area ».

As for the long-running sale of the area, however, everything is still silent, in the sense that both the administration and the citizens are waiting to know when they will try again with a new auction: “At the moment I have no news on this point », Continues Massaro,« I know that in the past an auction had been made that attempted to sell a whole series of properties, including the former Bardin area, but which had gone deserted. It seems that now they have found a way to “unpack” the various goods, auctioning them individually; operation that should take place shortly. If this is possible, I know that there was someone interested in buying and that he had repeated this desire to me on several occasions. So we only wait for the bankruptcy court to unblock the situation ».

THE OPPOSITION

The councilor Fabio Rufus Bristot has intervened several times on the issue: “The mayor regularly received reassurances that he was close to a definitive resolution of the problem, but in the meantime the years have passed and the situation is always the same”, he comments, “it is clear that, being a private property, the responsibility does not lie with the Municipality, but how it was possible to clean the area in the past, with the right ordinances it must be possible to avoid a similar destruction at the city gates. I also remember that the last cleaning was carried out in 2018 ».

It is Rufus himself who invokes an urban regeneration that starts from restoring decorum to this area as well as to others forgotten in the city: “There are pantegane and mosquitoes that thrive, so much so that both the supermarket and the bakery have repeatedly complained about what they have to live daily. To this we add the indecent spectacle that presents itself to a tourist, but also to a Belluno, who arrives in the city from via Monte Grappa, finding himself in front of uncut trees, illegible road signs and, as in many other parts of the city, a still provisional roundabout. after years and years. These are the priorities if we want to restore prestige to Belluno; because we are getting used to the ugly and this is not acceptable, especially in a reality that wants to relaunch its tourism ».

The merchant

The situation is particularly annoying for the residents and for the commercial activities of the area: “The situation has always been the same for years, luckily someone cleans up every now and then, but the substance never changes”, they comment disconsolately from the Bakery De Paris which is located in via Lungardo and facing right in front of the unfortunate degraded area.
