The main opposition coalition of Venezuelathe Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD)proposed this Friday to the historian Corina Yoris as a candidate for the presidential elections on July 28, in view of the disqualification that prevents the anti-Chavista leader from competing Maria Corina Machado.

In statements to the press, Machado assured that the decision “emerged from the discussion of the unitary forces” and is part of an agreed mechanism to “face this obstacle”, in reference to his disqualification, ratified in January by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ)a sanction described it as “an irrational, totally unconstitutional and cowardly act.”

Meanwhile, he will continue “touring all of Venezuela” to bring “strength and hope to every corner of the country”, while continuing his fight against the disqualification that prevents him from competing in elections for public office until 2036.

“We found the right person and (…) he is a person who has the respect of all those who have known him throughout his academic, professional, and civic life,” said Machado, who referred to Yoris, who “is not disqualified”, as a person of his “complete trust”.

He accused the Government of Nicolas Maduro of wanting to “close the road and the electoral route” to “deny all Venezuelans the path to change, to freedom in peace.”

«But they are not going to achieve it, we are determined to move forward and do what has to be done to stay within this path and fulfill a mandate, a mandate of almost 3 million Venezuelans that we achieved on October 22, with glorious primaries. , show the world what we are capable of »expressed Machado.

In this sense, Machado asserted that the majority opposition will get “the antidote” to “every trap” found on the road to the presidential elections.

For her part, Yoris said she felt “tremendously committed to the Venezuelan people” and to Machado, whom she thanked for “this act of trust,” and expressed her willingness to move toward “a path of transition in Venezuela.”

Yoris – a graduate in Philosophy, Letters and a doctor in History, as well as a university professor – was unanimously chosen within the PUD and has “the full support” of Machado.

Likewise, he was a member of the National Primary Commission (CNP) who organized the elections last October, in which Machado swept 92.35% of the votes. (I)
