“We assisted nearly fifty people, in coordination with the Secretariats of Political and Social Development, Health and Government, in addition to having the support of the National Police; Initially, the beneficiaries were characterized to identify their origin and conditions of permanence in our city; Later they enjoyed spaces for a shower and hairdresser, they received new clothes and a snack,” explained Mauricio Alberto Vega López, Night Mayor of Pereira.

Health care was provided thanks to the Mobile Unit provided by the branch secretariat, whose professionals attended to the beneficiaries; In the attended group, two pregnant women were identified, who received appropriate follow-up for control.

In parallel with these social and health actions, operations continue to ensure that street residents do not spend the night in parks or on public roads and that they make use of the shelter provided for them and which already operates 24 hours a day; In addition, the National Police is doing what is pertinent to prevent those street dwellers who are aggressive and who insist on intimidating people by asking for alms, from continuing to generate anxiety, taking advantage of the high influx of people to the city center on the occasion of the Holy Week activities.

“We continue the support work in all sectors of Pereira, especially during Holy Week, when the presence of locals and visitors increases, to guarantee safety; This work is being advanced in the different communes with the Beacon Plan, so that the community also has its authorities on these Holy Days,” concluded Vega López.
