Beijing to Create 20,000 New School Places and 260,000 Jobs
The second session of the 16th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress kicked off at the Beijing Convention Center on January 21, with Mayor Yin Yong presenting a government work report outlining the city’s goals for economic and social development in 2022.
One of the main priorities highlighted in the report is to create 20,000 new primary and secondary school places in order to further promote education reform and development in the city. This initiative aims to enhance education and teaching capabilities and support the high-quality development of universities in Beijing.
Additionally, Beijing is set to create no less than 260,000 new urban jobs as part of its efforts to promote high-quality and full employment. The city plans to implement proactive employment policies, stabilize and expand employment, and prioritize the employment of college graduates and young people.
The government work report also emphasized the importance of increasing the income of urban and rural residents and expanding the size of the middle-income group.
Following the work report, the conference also considered the “Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center Construction Regulations (Draft)” and voted to adopt the “Election Methods for the Second Session of the 16th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress”.
The goals outlined in the government work report reflect Beijing’s commitment to furthering its economic and social development in 2022, with a strong focus on education reform, employment, and income growth for residents.
