The Winter Paralympic Games will be held in five competition venues including the National Gymnasium, National Aquatics Center, National Alpine Ski Center, National Biathlon Center and Genting Ski Park. The “Ice Cube”, the curling competition venue for the Beijing Winter Olympics, has begun to “transform” into a wheelchair curling venue for the Winter Paralympics. At present, most of the image and landscape signs of the venues have been converted, and “Xue Rongrong” on the image landscape has replaced “Bing Dun Dun”, including the athletes’ passage, locker rooms and other areas have completed the transformation of the Winter Paralympic Games model. The National Alpine Ski Center in Xiaohaituo Mountain, Yanqing District, Beijing, has made adjustments in many details. Paralympic signs everywhere, new barrier-free access, wooden boards and anti-skid mats laid on the snow.
“These designs are designed to allow athletes to pass without barriers during the competition,” said Liu Jie, the Paralympic Integration Manager of the National Alpine Ski Center venue operation team. “This involves an important concept of our competition – humanization. The Genting Ski Park will undertake the two events of the Winter Paralympic Snowboard slalom chase and slope slalom. It has created four barrier-free streamlines for athletes, coaches, media reporters and spectators.
