Motorways and railway lines closed

The railway lines have also been closed since 8 p.m. The following lines are affected: RE1, RE6, RE11, RE16, RE49 as well as RB32, RB33, RB40, S1, S3 and S9. During the defusing, long-distance traffic should be diverted to Essen. Local transport between Essen and Bochum does not run at all.

Duds found during canal construction work

The dud was found during sewer construction work in the street Schimmelhofer Ring 29 in Essen-Frillendorf. All buildings within a radius of 250 meters are evacuated. A care center was set up in the Kolping Vocational Training Center in Essen for people who have to leave their homes and apartments.

The 2,900 people affected should stay within a radius of 250 to 500 meters in the building during the defusing – if possible in rooms facing away from the bomb. Around 200 emergency services are deployed to defuse the fire.
