DRC: the army strengthens its presence on the border with South Sudan and Uganda

For three days, the FARDC has reinforced its presence in Kengezi based in the territory of Aru (Ituri), on the border with South Sudan and Uganda. It was the provincial governor who gave this instruction after his mission ended last weekend in this territorial entity.

The army has strengthened its presence in the region in order to prevent recurrent infiltrations of armed men from neighboring countries to commit abuses against the population. The presence of these soldiers is welcomed with pomp by the inhabitants.

Kengezi-base is a border post located in the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo which forms a triangle with South Sudan and Uganda.

In this border region, there is fluidity of border traffic between the three countries.

But above all there are security problems with South Sudan. According to security sources, armed bandits regularly infiltrate several Congolese border villages to commit abuses against the population. These include killings, armed robberies, and irregular occupations of fields.

By decision of the provincial governor, FARDC soldiers were reinforced along the border with South Sudan to prevent any infiltration.

Civil society, which had long decried the abuses committed by uncontrolled armed men from these neighboring countries, welcomes this decision. This, according to Anguva Wadri, president of civil society in Zaki, will allow the local population to once again access the fields and freely go about their business.

This citizen structure, however, wishes this presence of the army to be permanent to safeguard the integrity of the country.
