Electoral Surveillance Board tests the indelible ink that will be used in elections

President Nayib Bukele, candidate for the country’s first magistracy for Nuevas Ideas, will win the presidential election in the first round with 90% of valid votes, according to the results of the latest survey by the Center for Citizen Studies of the Francisco Gavidia University ( UFG) on electoral perspective 2024.

According to the study, called “These are the data, don’t get angry”, Bukele has a voting intention of 71% of Salvadorans; However, when null votes and abstentions are subtracted, this increases, resulting in nine out of 10 supporting him at the polls.

In second place would be Manuel Flores, presidential candidate of the FMLN, with 3.67%; in third place, Joel Sánchez, from ARENA, with 3.42%, and Luis Parada, candidate from Nuestro Tiempo, in fourth place, with 1.39%. José Javier Renderos, from Fuerza Solidaria, and Marina Murillo, from Fraternidad Patriota Salvadoreña (FPS), have an intention to vote without abstentions or nullities of 0.76% each.

Óscar Picardo, director of the UFG Institute of Science and Technology, stated yesterday that the survey was carried out from the 3rd to the 8th of this month on a national scale and has a confidence level of 95%.

The opinion poll also shows that 84.1% of those interviewed stated that Nayib Bukele is the best candidate for president of the republic among the six candidates.

On the other hand, those consulted assure that Flores, Sánchez, Parada, Renderos and Murillo are the worst competitors. Furthermore, the population affirms that they do not know them and are not convinced by their campaign proposals.

Regarding re-electing Bukele as president of the republic, 77% expressed their agreement, a percentage that, according to Picardo, has increased compared to the results obtained in previous surveys.

«This is the third time we have asked the question and it is the highest record of support. In the previous two, first it was at 70%, it dropped to 60%, and now the support rose to 77% [a la reelección]», Picardo pointed out.

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice ruled in September 2021 in favor of immediate presidential re-election, leaving it in the hands of voters to make it effective, and Bukele announced in 2022 his interest in competing again.

«It is impossible for the opposition to try to confuse, since the population decided a long time ago that they will vote for our president Nayib Bukele. “Salvadorans reaffirm their full support for our president heading into the next 4F elections,” wrote the Nuevas Ideas party on the X social network.

The ARENA and Nuestro Tiempo candidates rejected the UFG survey data and stated that the real survey was conducted on election day.

«Surveys do not tell you the real data. People are afraid to give their opinion. The only survey that will count is the one from February 4. “We’ll find out there,” said Parada, presidential candidate for Nuestro Tiempo. Joel Sánchez, for his part, expressed: «The surveys are actually x-rays of the moment. “We are walking territory and what people tell us is reality: there is a desire for change.”
