[First-line interviews]A shelter in Shanghai has gone through twists and turns | Fangcang shelter hospital | Shanghai epidemic | Shanghai closed city

[The Epoch Times, April 13, 2022](The Epoch Times reporters Lin Cenxin and Chang Chun interviewed and reported) The number of infections in Shanghai continues to rise, and makeshift hospitals and isolation points are overcrowded. A family of three in Pudong New Area said that they contracted the virus due to quarantine and experienced various twists and turns when they were sent to the shelter.

A large number of residents are suspected of being infected due to nucleic acid testing

The number of reported infections in Shanghai hit a new high. On April 12, there were 1,189 new local confirmed cases and 25,141 asymptomatic infections. Due to the CCP’s habit of covering up the epidemic, the actual infection may be higher.

Shanghai Pudong resident Fang Ru (pseudonym) told reporters on the morning of the 12th that the community found abnormal nucleic acid on April 6, and informed the residents of the community to go downstairs to do the nucleic acid, “At that time, we thought we should not go downstairs, they wanted us to go downstairs. We were infected when we were queuing up to do the nucleic acid test, and the tests were all negative before.”

Fang Ru said that the person in front of them in the queue was a positive patient. She followed up with her father and mother, but they were all infected. The next day, the test results were not uploaded, and they continued to inform them to go downstairs for nucleic acid testing. After the test report is reviewed, someone will come to the door to do the nucleic acid.

“We found out later that it was not just our family, but that queue caused a total of nearly ten families in our two buildings to be infected.” Fang Ru said.

In the middle of the night, I will notify you to go to the square cabin when it is full and then change to another one.

The Shanghai authorities are building square cabins, with the aim of bringing all mild and asymptomatic infected people to square cabin hospitals to achieve the goal of “clearing the society”, but the number of square cabin hospitals is far from keeping up with the spread of the virus.

“The night before yesterday (10th), he told us to pack our luggage and pick us up at 11 o’clock. 10 people in this car in our community went out, got into the car, and sat in the car for about 5 minutes. The cabin is full, so I can’t get in.” Fang Ru said.

In the middle of the night, an old man in his 70s and 80s and a 3-year-old child carried their luggage upstairs in large and small bags. At 7 am the next day, they called again and said they wanted to go down and wait. A bus picks up.

A bus full of 42 people took them to the Shanghai National Convention and Exhibition Center (also known as a four-leaf clover). The official claim is that the city’s largest makeshift hospital, accommodating 54,000 patients.

The bus waited in line at the entrance of the National Exhibition and Convention Center for an hour and a half and could not get in. The air conditioner was not allowed to be turned on in the car. In the hot and muggy weather, the driver let them wait in the parking lot. After another hour, they still could not get in.

The bus driver dragged them to a newly opened quarantine point in Pudong on the 12th. The bus queued from 2 pm to 9 pm before entering the cabin. “No one gave us food or water.”

Fang Ru said that the bus driver told them that the entire Fangcang shelter hospital was overcrowded, and they usually first asked if there were vacancies in the Fangcang shelter hospital before pulling people over. “But the problem is that after driving over, there may be no more vacancies, and then change. The next square cabin, and then change, and then change, the driver said that he had the longest one, changed four square cabins, and stayed on the road for 30 hours.”

After entering the cabin, the mother has severe allergies and cannot be quarantined at home

At 9 p.m., Fang Ru’s family finally entered the cabin, but her mother had an allergic reaction to the disinfectant, “The doctor judged that my mother was allergic to the disinfectant in the cabin and was not suitable for isolation in the cabin. We are quarantined at home, and the doctor has issued a note, but there is no car to take us back.”

In the process of communicating with the neighborhood committee, the neighborhood committee also clearly told them that their family was positive, and even if they came back, they would not be allowed to enter the community. By 10 o’clock in the evening, they had nothing to eat or drink, and stayed outside the shelter, with no way to ask for help. Sending help messages online has aroused public reactions.

Fang Ru’s family finally entered the square cabin. She said that because of the positive relationship, the community and sub-district offices could not accept them, and they could not return home. “Now we can only live in the square cabin to overcome difficulties.” “My mother herself is a Disabled, and then she wasn’t very well in every way, and at the time (allergies) were severe, but I don’t know if it would be life-threatening if it went on like this.”

Clear the mess

In the face of the continuous increase in the number of cases caused by the detection of infections and the chaos in the makeshift hospitals, the CCP official Xinhua News Agency reported on the 11th that it continued to maintain the authority’s caliber, saying that “all circles in Shanghai insist on dynamic clearing and unswerving.”

Fang Ru said, “All positive patients are not treated in the Fangcang shelter hospital. They just lie there and wait until they recover and turn negative before letting you go home.” Just to clear the slogan, “It needs to be cleared, the national news has to be cleared, and all the communities have to be checked out without yang, and those with yang will be concentrated in all the square cabins. This is what he calls clearing.”

The reporter called the neighborhood committee where the interviewee was located many times, but the phone was not answered.

As of press time, Fang Ru and her parents were transferred to another makeshift hospital with better ventilation in Pudong, hoping to relieve her mother’s allergies.
