Before the minute of silence observed from the council chamber at the invitation of President Enrico Berti, it was the Councilor for Culture, Fabrizio Cigolot, who remembered Maurensig, «an expression of a Friuli that goes well beyond its own borders. As much as he loved this city, he frequents it, he served it – he stressed – it certainly deserves to be counted among the illustrious figures of recent city history. For this and also for that role that the city plays in the compendium of Friuli, if there is the agreement of the family, this administration intends to propose its name in the famedio of the monumental cemetery ». In addition to retracing Maurensig’s literary successes, Cigolot wanted to highlight the civic commitment that had also led him to hold the position of Councilor for Culture from 1 December 1998 to 3 February 2000 during the first term of Mayor Sergio Cecotti.

Maurensig was 78 years old, “few – the commissioner specified – for a person who I believe would still have had much to offer to literature and to our community. He lived in Feletto Umberto, he was a true man of culture very close to Friuli, rooted in the city of Udine (Venus injured is set in Udine) and many of his men of culture, a friend of Renato Della Torre, Mario Turello, Flavio Pressacco, Michele Meloni Tessitori, Paolo Medeossi, and many young emerging writers whom he has always encouraged ».
