Former heads of state present at the commemoration of the 19th anniversary of the death of Eyadema

February 5, 2005 – February 5, 2024, already 19 years since the late General Gnassingbé Eyadema, former President of the Republic of Togo, left this world. Ceremonies marked the commemoration of this disappearance this beginning of the week in Pya, the native village of the illustrious deceased and in Kara.

Former heads of state and prime ministers as well as other guests took part in the various ceremonies. We note the presence of General Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nicéphore Soglo, former President of the Republic of Benin, and former Prime Ministers Lansana Kouyaté of Guinea and Lassina Zerbo of Burkina Faso.

Memories of the illustrious departed were shared and prayers said for the repose of his soul. Officiants from different religious denominations implored God’s blessing and protection on Togo and its leaders.

The religious services took place in the presence of the Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé, who had at his side, among others, the Prime Minister, Victoire Tomégah-Dogbé, the President of the National Assembly, Yawa Djigbodi Tsègan, the presidents institutions of the Republic, diplomats, members of government, deputies, administrative and traditional authorities.

The festivities marking the 19th anniversary of the disappearance of the late General Gnassingbé Eyadéma also took place on Sunday February 4, 2024 in Lomé with religious services in the prefectures of Agoè-Nyivé and the Gulf, after Muslim prayer last Friday.
