A Russian private jet carrying six people on board crashed in a mountainous area in northern Afghanistan on Saturday evening. Four occupants survived the crash. The Russian aviation authorities reported this on Sunday.

It concerns a chartered flight that was en route from India to Moscow via Uzbekistan. According to the Russian aviation agency Rossaviatsia, there were four crew members and two passengers on board the plane: a “bedridden patient in serious condition” and her husband, who had paid for the flight. The couple had Russian nationality.

It was local residents who informed authorities in Badakhshan about the crash. The facts occurred in a difficult-to-access, mountainous area, about an eight-hour drive from the provincial capital of Faizabad.

Russia has announced an investigation into “violation of safety rules resulting in the death of two or more persons due to negligence.”
