Google Engineer Found “Spattered with Blood” After Brutally Beating Wife to Death in California
CALIFORNIA. – Liren Chen, a 27-year-old software engineer for Google, was found in a catatonic state with a swollen and bruised hand next to his wife’s body in their luxurious California home.
A concerned family friend called authorities for a welfare check after neither Chen nor his wife answered their phones or the door. The friend reported seeing Chen motionless and on his knees inside the house with a lost gaze.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Chen’s wife dead on the bedroom floor with serious blunt force injuries to the head. Chen was covered in blood and scratches, with his right arm extremely swollen and purple.
Chen has been charged with murder, but his arraignment has been postponed as he is currently hospitalized.
Both Chen and his wife, identified as Xuanyi Yu, worked for Google. Chen worked as a software engineer on a YouTube shorts recommendation algorithm. The couple studied in China at Tsinghua University and the University of California, San Diego.
The murder has garnered national attention in China and has led to unverified rumors linking the crime to recent layoffs at Google, making it the front-page headline in the largest Chinese-language newspaper in the United States, The World Journal.
