Guangzhou Railway Group Expects Surge in Passenger Numbers for Spring Festival Travel

The Guangzhou Railway Group is anticipating a significant increase in the number of passengers traveling during the Spring Festival period. According to reports from the group, they are expected to send 2.089 million passengers on February 18, which marks the ninth day of the first lunar month. This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 443,000 passengers, demonstrating a substantial rise of 26.9%.

Since the commencement of the Spring Festival Transport on January 26, the Guangzhou Railway Group has already transported a total of 45.874 million passengers. Notably, since the sixth day of the first lunar month, the group has managed to send over 2 million passengers for four consecutive days, highlighting the unprecedented demand for rail transportation during this holiday period.

The Passenger Transport Department of Guangzhou Railway Group has attributed this surge in passenger numbers to the simultaneous resumption of work for various enterprises and the reopening of schools. This has led to an overlap in the flow of workers, family visits, and students. The department predicts that the second wave of passenger flow will reach its peak on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, which falls on February 24.

In response to this escalating demand, the railway department has been actively exploring transportation potential to meet the needs of passengers. They have focused on popular sections such as Chongqing to Guangzhou, Shenzhen to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang to Guangzhou, Shantou to Guangzhou, Guangzhou to Shenzhen, Nanning to Guangzhou, Changsha to Shenzhen, Huaihua to Guangzhou, Zhangjiajie, and Changsha. Additional trains and reconnected EMUs have been introduced to accommodate the surge in passenger numbers on these routes.

To improve the travel experience for passengers, major railway stations under the management of the Guangzhou Railway Group have implemented several convenience service measures. These include the establishment of “one-way security check-free” passages at Guangzhou South Railway Station for seamless transfers to the subway, the provision of manual services and cash ticket purchase services at Shenzhen North Railway Station, and the introduction of a comprehensive service area at Guangzhou Station to facilitate convenient ticketing services for incoming passengers.

As the Spring Festival travel period continues, the Guangzhou Railway Group is focused on ensuring the smooth and efficient transportation of passengers while also prioritizing their safety and comfort. The railway department remains vigilant in monitoring passenger flows and making necessary adjustments to meet the evolving travel needs of the public.
